Tomato Plants and Dog Puzzles

In honor of Earth Day, my friend gave me two tomato plants! Look at that super cute small one. I can hardly wait to get them in the garden and watch them fruit.

Apparently someone else couldn't wait either.

Emile!

Tomato plants are now surrounded by a wall of nalgenes until it warms up enough for planting.

We have had some sunny days and some really rainy ones. On a rainy one, Nim got his meaty bone and Emile was right there for assisting.

I also ordered another dog puzzle for Nim. When we got to All the Best in Issaquah, Nim knows exactly where the "play section" of the store is. I know. Anyway, they have all these puzzles out and he liked this one known as "Dog Brick."

Turns out, I can fit an entire meal + vitamins in this toy. That is a big plus. I have some puzzle toys that can hold entire meals while some are smaller treat ones.

I have started paying more attention to how he solves these. I wonder if all dogs are sequential? It isn't just this toy I have noticed it on. Once he decides an approach he seems to complete it. For example, all the center bones first...or on this other slide toy he has, he systematically slides them all the same direction first, and then goes back the other way.

I will leave you with a cute snuggle photo. Just because.

  3. One of our friends let us borrow that same food puzzle. Mickie also did it sequentially. All the bones first, then side all the bricks one way, then slide the other side. And just for good measure go back and slide all the bricks back and forth one more time to be sure he didn't miss anything. The whole process took about 45 seconds! And Benjamin the cat could do the whole tornado food puzzle in about 2 minutes if it had little pieces of cheese in it!

    1. You know, my cats never get their own crack at it, but Emile is always right there to assist or clean up. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that dog are that smart and patterned. I guess I hadn't really stopped to watch it before. I do have the tornado too...you have me tempted to close off an area for him to work it.

  4. I should probably get some of those toys for Walter. Millie would probably walk away and say it would be too much bother for her. Love that last picture of Nim with his kitty.

    1. They really are pretty amazing. I should have done them more with my first dog. In all honesty, I find him more willing to do little training exercises afterwards too. I think those puzzles are an interesting warm up for the dog. Nim loves his kitty. :)

  5. Emile seems to like to get into everyone's food lol. I wonder if mine would even know what to do with the dog puzzle. I know Lucas wouldn't. Holly might. Nim's a clever boy.

    1. Nim I really introduced them early, so he gets the game of them. :)
