Between yesterday's bear (who I actually think never cares what the yard looks like) and today's small elk herd I am thinking my efforts might be paying off. I have also had persistent deer this year...probably in part thanks to the plum tree.
What I don't understand is why they don't help clear this vegetation for me? They were even chewing on some of the dead stuff I had cut down!
This chestnut beauty definitely kept the eye on me as the rest of the group passed. There was a total of 5 babies in this group! So much loud peeping.
I wanted to run back out after they left and do more yard work for them. At least someone appreciates it.
But studying first.
I feel insanely lucky at times like these.
Amazing.
I even took some terrible video, but it makes me happy.
This video has some loud peeping as the little guys are still trying to come down into the creek (from the left side):
After the last (and noisiest) group makes it down:
Great pictures!!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I had a lot turn out OK considering I was going through glass at one corner and hanging out the window at the other. I love them.
DeleteElk are much better than bears although I would imagine the mom's could get a bit protective of their babies.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely. I don't mess with the elk, but especially not with their babies or mating season. I never want them to panic and run anyway, so I am pretty carefully around them. I am just so glad to have them.
DeleteThey are gorgeous! I still have my lone elk, a few deer, and an owl that I saw the other night. They make me so happy!
ReplyDeleteI know. It really is the little things. And now that it is staying in the 70s I am a happy little clam.
DeleteYou have the most amazing wildlife! You are so lucky. Although that bear would have been scary, still amazing. I noticed one of them had a tracking device (I guess) around its neck. Is that something they do a lot?
ReplyDeleteYes. I usually see a couple a year. I think it is in part migration study and part population. Sam
