Welcome to Monday...I am about as happy about it as everyone else is I think.
First, down to business. There is two photos in this post. The first is a flower, the second (last photo) is a snake. Since I have a total spider fear I respect all the snake fears out there...and so many of my friends are strongly repulsed by snakes.
Now, about Nasturtiums...
I am growing them and they are finally starting to flower. I am surprised just how pretty the flowers are and more importantly, I can eat them. So yesterday some flowers and leaves went into my stir fry. I am so desperate to be able to eat anything I grew myself. They did not disappoint. The only other thing I can eat so far is the occasional pea. I think I grow like one a day.
Now, about my snake. I can't help it. I have a resident snake and I think she had a family this year because I caught her sunning with a much smaller snake. However, the below photo is just her.
If you scroll down...you will see the snake. Have a great day, and I promise snake photos will not a be a permanent fixture.
I love that you put a warning on your post! LOL! Do you know what kind of snake it is? I hope it isn't poisonous. Wait until you see my next post.
ReplyDeleteSo what does a flower taste like? I hope someday you get more than one pea so you could have a whole serving at one time.
Cindy
:) Well, I want to keep my readers!
DeleteIt is a gartner snake on this side of WA, and not poisonous. We do have Western Rattlesnakes on the east side of WA, but even when I have hiked over there I have only ever heard one once. They are pretty secretive.
The leaves and flowers are definitely a bit "peppery" on their own and raw, but once I stir fried them with everything else they were muted. Apparently I needed to add quite a bit more. And yes, I hope I grow more too!
Looking forward to your next post, Sam
Very cute snake.................how long do you think they live?
ReplyDeleteSo I just looked it up and not long! Like 2 year average. I think what gets them (predators aside) is the winters. I am trying to think how long I have been seeing a snake in that location. I would say at least 2 years so maybe that is just the family location.
DeleteI just think she is beautiful. She left her long skin for me a few weeks ago.
She is very big for a garter (gartner?) snake! How long was the skin.
ReplyDeleteShe is actually really good sized. I have seen one ridiculous big on in my life and that was on a hike. It was so huge. I didn't measure the skin, I should have though because she isn't going to cooperate!
DeleteVery pretty flower. Reminds me of fall ( the colors).
ReplyDeleteI hate snakes. I can look at them ( unlike photos of roaches I have nightmares) but I still don't like them. We actually had one in our yard Friday. Usually Lucas jumps and runs the other way. This time he wanted to see the darn thing. He must be going senile :)
You actually have poisonous snakes! I would be more wary of that.
DeleteWe rarely get roaches out here that I have seen. I found them once in Oregon in a really crappy hotel. But they were the smaller ones.
