Scrappy Stars Quilt

Finally completed a quilt so I could try it with the old-time photo converter. Very fun. :)

I have to admire the woman that put this kit together with donated fabric because she brought together lot of different fabric that I wouldn't have thought to combine. The stars stood out very nicely once the entire quilt was complete.

Flat Feet Yarn

So I have really wanted to try knitting a set of socks using the Flat Feet yarn by Conjoined Creations. A quilting/knitting friend suggested I check it out at Cultured Purls and just this week my mom got me a "skein" of it!

Now the challenge is going through my knitting magazines for the perfect socks to make with it. There is also a free pattern on the Conjoined Creations Web site but I figure I will first see if there is a pattern I have been wanting to try. Stay tuned...

Laundry

Rescue kitten deals with blanket washing day (favorite blanket is in the laundry) the best he can...

Ruffled Dress

OK, first things first...fun site for giving your photo that old-time look. I need to finish a quilt soon because I think a quilt would be particularly fun. Try this converter out yourself!

Now, the ruffled dress was knitted using Dalegarn Svale yarn purchased at Cultured Purls in Issaquah. The pattern is called "ruffled dress" from the book Baby Knits by Lois Daykin. This pattern and I didn't get along so well; which is interesting since the other pattern I made from this book was very clear.

The confusion came in lining up all the ruffles in the ruffle panel. It was a fine line between poorly written - knitter error - pattern error. However, the final product was very satisfying and it came together nicely...

North Fork road washout

Above photo: new waterfall far up the hill from the now buried road.

Our last big flooding storm that went through probably wiped out at least 300 yards of road on the North Fork (logging and hiking access mostly). These photos really don't capture how impressive it is.

This photo is taken from where the road roughly was looking at the wash all the way down to the river.

All that is left of what was probably a very powerful water system now down more to creek size.

Nice sandy sediment (notice the pretty second growth in the background). I didn't take a photo of it; but part of where the river undercut the road actually exposed very old original road built on old growth timber.

Frank's Quilt (in loving memory)

This quilt was created using the pattern "Quilt Interrupted" from "Phenomenal fat quarter quilts" by M'Liss Rae Hawley. I would absolutely recommend this book for useful guidelines and ideas for all the fat quarters that quilters tend to collect.

The back of the quilt better details the quilting decision I made. You can see on the front the use of the black fabric as a lattice and I simply didn't want to sew straight lines across it so there was more stopping and starting in this one.

This quilt was started when my friend became pregnant with her second baby. What no one could have anticipated was Frank passing away 22 weeks into the pregnancy. Despite how emotional it was; I was actually more motivated to complete this quilt in a timely manner for both him and his family.

Sweet boy, this quilt is for your loving family and in your memory.
