Fabric 3 (peach) and Fabric 4 (blue)

This is the last of half square triangles for this instruction section. The blue fabric was actually initially bought to go with the peach floral. It was going to be the thick edging of the skirt. It is nice to use them together.

With this instruction release complete it is time to peek ahead, feed the dogs, and hopefully put a little more time in!

Fabric 4 (blue) and Fabric 5 (red)

Next set of half square triangles...

For fabric 5 (red) we could match fabric of similar value if needed which I ended up doing as I didn't have enough of any one given red.

I particularly like the red with the small blue flowers as it is paired with this blue fabric.

Nim is holding strong!

Fabric 3 (peach) and Fabric 6 (green)

I will attempt to recreate this blog post...was just about to post and lost power!

The first instruction for the Mystery Quilt is matching fabric to create half square triangles.

My mom and I had taken a sampler quilting class from Mo at the Issaquah Pacific Fabric (now closed) and Mo had recommended the above plastic tool rather than using a pencil and she had also taught us how to do the chain method.

Mo now operates out her own studio on the Sammamish Plateau: Quilt With Mo.

Fabric 3 is the peach with floral prints. It was initially purchased to make a skirt. I am hopeful this quilt will really showcase it well. :) Fabric 6 is a nice deep green.

I did a good job wearing Nim out this morning. He is cooperating nicely. However, when the power went out he thought we were done for the day.

It is so windy right now. I am going to hit post and edit as needed!

Happy New Year's Day!

We all could select any day of our lives to decide to start over or change a habit, but there is something about the start of a new year that makes you feel like you have a little more of an edge for your future to improve or for opportunities to open up.

I just found out yesterday that apparently black-eyed peas and greens are important for good luck going into the new year! Had I known this I may have rethought my black bean direction. So I quickly found a good luck vegan meal: "A (vegan) Recipe of Good Luck" and went the canned beans route. Sadly I am just not one of those people that luck seems to follow, but I am not taking any chances! Hopefully starting out 2012 with this great meal will bring some much appreciated luck, prosperity, and abundance my way. On the positive side I am really building up some leftovers for the coming weeks.

I did leave out the fake pork/bacon however. I am not a huge fan.

Notice the sun! Of course I have a day of sewing ahead of me and what happens? We get SUN! I got through my commitments this morning, rushed home, cooked my lucky meal and now I am about to settle in to the Mystery Quilt! I will not look ahead until I have completed each step in the order released.

It is a New Year on the East Coast!

It is New Year Day on the East Coast and we are watching for the first installment of the Mystery Quilt instructions.

I have some sugar in my system from birthday cake, but I know that sadly I don't have a lot of energy in me for the night. It isn't that I don't stay up, it is just that I am usually sitting in bed and knitting or working on a puzzle by 9pm. I think even Nim is confused why we are upstairs.

I at least want to see the first release of the instructions. :)

OK, I admit, I am already losing steam. :) No instructions are up yet, which is fine, I don't blame her at all, and I have to say I am already thinking about going to bed. This may just have to officially wait to start until later tomorrow.

Morning Wildlife

Right after I finished my last blog post I was heading down to the main house to check on my stew and noticed the hillside was moving. :) I went back upstairs to get my camera.
I never get tired of the elk in my yard. It is a lucky day today that I got so many of them!

They are so uncooperative about staying in one place for me. I really have to come in quick and quiet and start taking as many photos as possible. Many of the photos will be a blur of large animal running.

Yes, that is some of the backhoe. Perhaps they were investigating the changes in my yard.

Now we all know that the "person" most likely to fall in that hole is Rusty. The one that can't read the tape and is below its level anyway.

Since the hole, dirt piles, and equipment are all new he would very much like to run out and mark them. Which I am not letting him do.
